Baked, tender-crisp, extruded or freeze-dried? Choosing a dry-food texture
Choose the dry-food experience by texture, nutrition role and the brand promise shoppers should recognize.
Texture is the first thing a shopper notices about dry food, long before they read the recipe. Baked pieces read as homemade and gentle. Extruded kibble reads as familiar and scalable. Freeze-dried pieces read as minimally processed and premium.
When we review a dry-food brief, we start from three questions: what feeding role should the product play, what shelf and pack constraints apply, and what should the piece look like in the bowl. From there we review piece geometry, density and coating against the brand promise — then move to samples.
